First Real Sign of Recovery; Peak Power Demand Returns to Normal
The Peak Power Demand in India, which has perhaps taken one of the biggest hits that lasted nearly 4-6 months due to the lockdown imposed for containment of COVID-19, has finally found its way back to ‘normal’ as India touched 174.33 GW demand on September 9, 2020. Showing a spurt in commercial and industrial activities in the country that had been halted during the lockdown, the peak demand surpassed the highest level of 173.15 GW in September last year.

Engineered "Mighty Mice" sent to space retain their mass in low gravity
The short- and long-term impacts of the space environment on the human body is still a great unknown, and one that a number of research groups are trying to get to the bottom of. Get diamonds, take temperature
Measuring the temperature of objects at a nanometer-scale has been a long challenge, especially in living biological samples, because of the lack of precise and reliable nanothermometers. An international team of researchers has realized a quantum technology to probe temperature on a nanometer-scale, and have observed a 'fever' in tiny nematode worms under pharmacological treatment. This strengthens the connection between quantum sensing and biology and ushers in novel thermal imaging technologies in biomedical research.

Site of male sexual desire uncovered in brain
The locus of male sexual desire has been uncovered in specific regions of brain tissue where a key gene named aromatase is present, reports a new study in mice. The gene regulates sexual behavior in men, and thus can be targeted by drugs to either increase its function for low sexual desire or decrease its function for compulsive sexual desire, scientists said. Aromatase converts testosterone to estrogen in the brain, which drives male sexual activity.

Does a coronavirus vaccine need the government to push people to take it?
One recent alarm raised by the public health community is that too many people may opt against receiving a COVID-19 vaccine if one becomes available, which advocates claim will exacerbate the harm of the pandemic. There is a call for government intervention to raise vaccine takeup, but this is partly paternalistic and ignores that the harms imposed by the unvaccinated are mostly self-imposed and economic in nature.
